Wow so happy I found this place. Can't believe it took me so long so come here. Had the prime rib and was thoroughly pleased. Great price great size and perfectly done. Seriously going to keep this my personal steakhouse for (quite) awhile!!

Service was friendly. Food on the other hand not so great. Got an alright burger with shredded cheese on it when I asked for cheddar, it was over cooked and lacked seasoning. The fries that accompanied it were stale and were cold. Also the server forgot to bring my boyfriend a complete meal missing items that were listed in the description of his meal choice. Mediocre at best. The only reason for the two star would be our server.

Service has gone downhill in the last year, which makes me so sad. I actually think I've been in denial about the decline in service because I love the charm of this place, and I think the food is decent for a good price. Nine out of ten times we sit in the bar, and I have to agree that on a good day, most of the staff seems cranky. Ugh. As far as the yuppie thing? Uh, ok? This is definitely not a yuppie hangout. I think the crowd is eclectic. But no judgment here! I love all kinds of people watching. The world would be so boring if we were all the same.

  • Josh K.

OK, for those of you that follow my reviews, you know I hate yuppy places, and this is yuppy as yuppy can get. But I will digress from that to just talk about their food and mainly service. My wife and I went tonight. I have been avoiding there because the service is usually awful and the servers seem to care very little about quality service and timeliness. Alas we went tonight after dinner elsewhere and decided to sit at the bar, because of course, service would be quicker there.... Dont hold your breath, it wasnt. Never saw anyone for a full 5 minutes, and even then she seemed pissed off to be there and in a cranky mood. This place survives because they are the only place in castle pines that has a steak. If they werent, they would be under tomorrow. In previous visits, and ALL previous visits, I have been underwhelmed by the service, it is always awful. And the food is mediocre at best. Put all that together with the fact that you are surrounded by yuppies with too much money who think they are cool for being here, but have no real taste or thoughts of their own, and then you want to vomit in your mouth, and likely all over this restaurant as well. Dont be fooled, this place is pretty, but pretty awful too.

Well this place is OK a average steak house I won't even hit the negatives but the positives are the jack and coke were strong and good and the steak and seafood plate was really good kids enjoyed the chicken tenders .... Burgers were average .. Really good service.... Best part is the free and is mints...

Our favorite place in Colorado! My husband and I have been coming to Dukes for exceptional steaks and service for 3 years now and have yet to leave without cleaning our plates. Every server has been wonderful and every ribeye absolute perfection. We don't even enjoy going to the expensive/upscale steakhouses in Denver anymore- the food is just not as good as Duke's and it's over priced. We are lifetime patrons!

This place was great! Stopped by for dinner and had the sirloin steak. Came with fresh steamed veggies. Great steak and perfectly cooked with the right amount of seasoning. Attentive and helpful service too (Matt was my server). I'll definitely stop in again.

Top three all time best steak I've ever had, NON YUPPIESH casual dining. When busy can get a little loud

  • Steve K.

We had a great lunch. Burgers are superb, I had the jalapeño cream cheese which was fantastic. Beers are extra cold and extra big. Good sized kids meal with lots of variety, have the traditional items like Mac and cheese plus sirloin tips and fish. Service was great, we sat in the bar and the bartender took great care of us.

  • Courtney G.

If you want a bland dining experience, this would fit the bill. We waited 35 to get our food, but it was Valentine's Day, so we attributed it to that. When the food came out, it was very bland, as if seasoning hadn't even been considered. I had to salt my veggies and the meat, while tender, had only a hint of seasoning. A good steak doesn't need much, this needed a lot more than it had. My boyfriend's steak came out slightly overcooked. We sat at the bar because they insisted they had so many reservations that the dining room was reserved only for that. It didn't seem that busy. While the bartenders were pleasant to us, they spent most of the time we were there complaining (at least I felt they were, my boyfriend didn't feel the same). I gave 3 stars because it was a mediocre experience at best.

A great place for any meal. Great place for Sunday brunch. Steak and eggs just great. I regularly have their Cob steak salad for lunch which comes with filet pieces cooked to order. This meal is great. It's a truly healthy and tasty meal. Their steaks are over the top with respect to quality and the cook staff is great at providing you exactly what you ask. The staff is pleasant and helpful. Pricing for atmosphere and food quality is bargain. The local owners have been in this a long time and you can tell they're good at it.

My boyfriend and I got a to-go order here last night and everything we had was very good. I had the Spinach and Artichoke Chicken with rice, which was delicious! My boyfriend got the Pikes Peak Burger. I didn't try it but when I asked him how the burger was on a scale from 1-5, he said it was a 3 only because the bottom bun was really soggy. We also ordered the carrot cake, which I thought was very good. Nice and light and easy. We will absolutely be getting food from here again. I only took 1 star away because the chicken was a little dry I had, the food was a little cold even though they told us it would take 20 minutes for it to be ready and we live 30 seconds away so we left about 15 minutes after we called. I am glad the food was ready I just wish it would not of been almost cold when we got it.

Great happy hour drink prices and tasty appetizers. Not to mention fantastic and friendly staff!

  • G N.

Great food, great service. First time here and I had the Prime Rib. It was cooked very well and the seasoning was excellent. It wasn't too fatty and it was extremely tender. The family really enjoyed their food too. I'd definitely come back!

    (5)
  • John G.

Good food easy access and plenty of parking. The food is good and service was better than I was expecting. We did have to wait for our check but maybe it was us just trying to get out because the kids were getting tired. Overall a good experience.

Eaten here a half a dozen times due to location) and am sad to say I'm not coming back. Food is good but they are lacking service. Sat at the bar for dinner and asked for a second glass of wine 3 times. Bartender took my 1/2 eaten plate, which was a Expensive steak dinner, without asking if I was finished. He placed it in the dirty dish tub before I could tell him I wanted a to go box. When I did, he pulled it out and said "no worries it was on the top" and handed me a box. It was a busy night and he was very understaffed but that is disgusting! If he thought that was acceptable what is the kitchen staff doing?

We've lived Castle Rock for 5 years and finally decided to try Dukes. After reading the mixed reviews, we were surprised to see the place packed for lunch on a Wednesday. After being seated the friendly waiter promptly took our order. The French dip and Salad were great. The multiple substitutions my wife routinely asks for we kindly received and then executed well in the kitchen. The high food quality and relatively low prices were a pleasant surprise - we will certainly return. After our positive experience we can see why the place was bustling for mid week lunch.

    (4)
  • Darrell C.

On a whim with family out of town, stopped by instead of trying Los Fajitas. Glad I did. Sirloin tips over mashed potatoes. That was the best I've ever had including my mom's. I will come back just to get that again. Please don't disappoint.

    (5)
  • Ron H.

Great Happy Hour! Our waitress took the time to check on us often even though the place was packed. Had the Original burger, cooked just right and the fixings were fresh and tasty. Will definitely go back when we're in town.

  • Louisa W.

Duke's just a great place to kick back and enjoy some drinks and decent food. Yes, I have waited forever for my order, and yes, the bathrooms smell weird, but when it comes down to it, Castle Pines doesn't give you many local options. So, Duke's it is!

    (4)
  • Meredith N.

Never, EVER has there been better prime rib than at Dukes. I love the location there in Castle Pines ( a great upgrade from their earlier location ). If you're going for salad or seafood (which seems to be the primary complaint in the other reviews), this may not be the place for you. Our experience with non-beef entrees have been great though. You order according to a places specialties though, and NO ONE does beef better!

    (5)
  • Karen A.

Spot on! .. the kitchen turns out the best in beef. We've enjoyed most of the menu via/with friends, welcoming wait staff and the clientele are our neighbors. Go for the mussels and a blue cheese wedge if beef is not your choice but this is definitely not for a vegetarian delight and not a chain steak/burger joint. It is dad cooking burgers and your niece serving with a smile.

  • Kristin W.

I am reading these reviews going WTF. We are steak house fans and have run restaurants. This place was great! We loved the environment, drinks were great and our food was fabulous. We all got rib-eyes along with shrimp and scallops- quite possibly the best scallops and shrimp I've ever eaten. Decent service and the creme brûlée was unbelievable. Out new favorite spot!!! Must try

    (5)
  • Trevor B.

Very nice experience. Our waiter was nice and professional, and the apps were delicious. I, unfortunately, ate too many and couldn't finish my burger, which was also good. Atmosphere was very calm and relaxing. I have nothing to complain here, and I would love to go back!

  • Thomas S.

I'm a local and do not get it. I went here with family and it seemed nice enough decor wise. The trouble came with the service, nearly every section of the meal was messed up. Incorrect drinks brought to us, more than once. Steaks overdone, if you order medium rare, check it before the server walks away. Quality of the cuts were not up to par for what they charge, think chain steakhouse though not as good as some chains. All in all can't understand why people here in castle rock stand by this place, the owner must have lots of friends. Anymore if I'm in the mood for a good steak close to home I have two options: J. Alexander's in lone tree(16 oz. bone in ribeye- off menu), or I go to Tonys market and pick up a nice cut, and grill it myself on my big green egg.

    (2)
  • Jon L.

Come on people! If you don't eat cow don't post. This is Duke's steak house! Also, if want a fancy steak house go to Morton's. This place has been consistent and good for years. It is what it is, medium priced good quality local steak house.

    (5)
  • Sam H.

I've eaten here probably a dozen times and if you aren't going for a big hunk of cow try another place. My brother likes this place so unfortunately we have frequented this place often. Steaks are phenomenal but veggie sides I've had were obviously frozen and heated. Mashed Potatoes are usually a bit bland for me. Not impressed with the fish. Won't do that again because the fish always seems to be barely warm when it is served yet somehow over-cooked and rubbery. Certainly not the place to eat fish. I had one lady respond to this place and say, "duh, it's a steakhouse." My only response is don't put something on your menu that you aren't 100% proud of serving.

  • Corey B.

Was great again, had the chopped buffalo steak. Too much gravy for my taste.

    (4)
  • Kiva W.

Steak was about the same quality as outback, but twice the price. Service was not up to par with the pricing of the food. Decent, but we won't return.

    (3)
  • Mark D.

Service is good, food is great! Go early because there is a long line for dinner! The outdoor patio is nice on a warm night. The bar is fun and inviting.... 100 times better than La Dolce Vita (Italian restaurant in the same plaza)

My adult family of four dined here tonight and we all loved it. Two of us live here and the other two are on vacation - we were quite a handful, I'll say. Throughout the confusion (my father ordered a Pittsburg steak, not realizing it's 'rare', among other things) our waitress, Connie, was amazing. When she announced the kitchen had run out of the soup of the day (an hour before closing time), my father was disappointed he couldn't try it and joked if he could just get the scrapings off the pan, but Connie didn't hear it. Amazingly, she came back later with a condiment cup full with the last of the soup. When my father sent his steak back apologetically, Connie took just the steak so he could still eat his sides. However, when she arrived with his steak she came with another plate of food, at no extra charge. She went above and beyond with her service, made us laugh and feel as though we were at home. Between the food and the service, we are definitely going back. Thank you, Connie, for being one of the best servers we've ever encountered.

    (5)
  • Sharon C.

The waitress was friendly (though not terribly competent) and the food did not make us sick. Other than that, very little positive to say. The prime rib was a big portion, but grisly. The vegetables and baked potato were utterly tasteless. I like Outback quite a bit better, and it is cheaper.

    (2)
  • Sharon S.

My husband and I stopped for lunch on a Sunday. I had the tenderloin salad which was more than an ample serving, and the steak was cooked perfectly. He had the chicken fried steak, and loaded mashed potatoes, both very good... As an appetizer, we had the mussels, which were large, fresh, and perfectly steamed, but could have had a little more butter/garlic in the broth. Service

    (4)
  • Robert N.

Reasonably priced old school style steakhouse. The cuts of meat are huge, the vegetables mediocre, and the soups are awesome. Try the prime rib as it is monstrous and, although a bit salty, still has tons of great flavor. I've had it a few times and it was excellently prepared twice, a little tough and dry once. The Trout Almondine is my favorite thing from here though, an amazingly delicious indulgence.

We went here for my birthday on a Sunday evening with my 13 month old son. Our server was Chuck (I think). I thought the service and food was fantastic. My step dad is a hard guy to please, but honestly I think he was impressed. I got the top sirloin with baked potato and veggies. It was delicious and very tender. My husband ate the cordon blue chicken and he said he enjoyed it very much. My son ate a kids steak (well done) with fruit and he seemed to really love it too. After dinner Chuck came back with a little dessert for my birthday with a candle in it. They didn't sing and or embarrass me, which was OK with me. He was very sweet and sang a sweet happy birthday song to me. I don't know how much it was, but I'm sure it wasn't cheap (being a steakhouse). I enjoyed the atmosphere and wait staff as they were engaging with my son. Thank you for a great birthday dinner!

Despite the lukewarm reviews, we ventured in during Sunday brunch because I was determined to try Rocky Mountain Oysters before leaving Colorado, and we needed a place that was not too far off the highway. There were brunch specials and cheap drinks, which we didn't take advantage of, and ordered off the dinner menu. Dishes came out hot and portion sizes were good. The Rocky Mountain Oysters were an acquired taste. The bf got the Santa Fe chicken, which was a big cheesy mess, and loved it. I got the bison burger w a side of fruit. Although it was well done instead of medium as I had requested, it was still juicy and tasty. The fruit did not look or taste so fresh, but nobody got sick afterwards. We would come back again.

  • Dash H.

Came here with my family despite the reviews. The service was very good from the hostess, bar staff, and server/food runner. The decor leaves a little to be desired, but it doesn't feel dirty by any means. It's a family atmosphere and is decorated as such. I got a NY strip steak, medium rare with grilled onions. It was cooked perfectly, but without the onions it lacked some flavor, needed some more spice. All in all it was a good experience. I'm not sure we'll come down from Denver again, but if I lived in the neighborhood I probably would

  • Fay H.

Sunday brunch here is great because you can order off the brunch or full menu. Love the $3 mimosas and Bloody Mary. It's generally pretty quiet and laid back.

  • Proteus D.

I've been here twice. Once with a work colleague who lives nearby and once with my wife and two kids. It's a neighborhood restaurant that is kid friendly and has some nice enough food. Both times I had the walleye. First fried in breadcrumbs and second grilled. Both times with broccoli and baked potato. The fish is nice and cooked well. Tasty enough. My wife had the seafood carbonara which she reported was very nice. Not too rich. My son had Mac and cheese (out of a packet) which he liked so much we had to order him a second helping! Service good and polite but not over friendly.

I really love this place. I've eaten here 5 times in the last 4 months. 4 for lunch and once for a dinner. Guy has it right, its not Elway's, It's Duke's. The owner puts his heart and soul in this place and it shows too. I would pick Duke's over Outback, or Texas Roadhouse any day! Every time I have eaten here the food has been perfect! Their burritos are great as well as the green chili. If you want, you can even have Rocky Mountain oysters....

  • Herb S.

My wife and I ate at the bar late Saturday afternoon. My hamburger was good and my wife enjoyed the sliders. Megan, the barmaid, was very attentive and informative. The place still looks like the Irish pub that it once was. The hostess was very accommodating when we asked to look at the main restaurant and menu. Will probably return to try again.

  • Gina M.

Great local restaurant with good food and service. Steaks were juicy and fresh, burger was tasty and ahi tuna salad was delish. Service was prompt and professional. Reasonable prices, to boot. We'll be back for sure! Give it a try and support local business owners!

  • Rebecca F.

I really wasn't much of a fan after trying to eat dinner here, but my husband thought it was pretty good (of course, we were at higher elevations and he was drinking a few beers!). Everything on the menu sounded like it was going to be huge, so I opted for an open face hot beef sandwich with mashed potatoes (still sounds huge, but smaller than the dinner options!). The gravy was rather salty, and the potatoes would have been bland if they weren't seemingly too salty too. The ribeye my husband ordered was maybe 1" thick and it seemed okay with my one bite to taste. My husband had to finish my sandwich and all of that gravy with the potatoes after he finished his steak. The best thing I ate there would have to be his vegetable side of broccoli and carrots hence the "Meh. I've experienced better." rating. I also ordered the chocolate lava cake (one of my favorite things!) and this one was just okay... I will say that Duke's has potential for a place to go drinking with a bunch of friends (we were a group of 7 and they were able to accommodate us on a busy Saturday night with just a short wait) and maybe is better for bar food and drinks. I would also hope that there are better steakhouses than this in Colorado... I'd much prefer to go to a Ruth's Chris than here even though RC is a bit more expensive. Duke's does have a menu for kids too and maybe it's a cheaper family option for those wanting an average steak at a restaurant. I do miss Celtic Crossing that used to be at this location, but that wasn't really a factor in my overall impression of the place.

First of all, I really wanted this to turn out well as I have eaten at this restaurant in the past in Castle Rock and LOVED IT! Not the case this time. I have eaten here two times since they have moved to Castle Pines North. Once for lunch, once for dinner. For lunch, we had a party of 5. The service was absolutely terrible and the food was served warm, not hot. The server had a bad attitude and was not very attentive to us even though the restaurant was not very full. Chalked it up to maybe a bad server (young). No manager help. For dinner, last night, we had a party of 7. Other than the fact the service started slow (and with major attitude), I was hoping for a great dinner! We ordered an appetizer and asked for it as an app. It showed up as dinner and was the dinner plate, not app plate (crab legs). The waitress was defensive and tried to blame the situation on us instead of just fixing it THEN SHE CHARGED US FOR IT. She was rude and defensive. Even after the manager said he would make it the app price ($8 vs $27). He only took $5 off the price. She said that was all they were going do to because we used a $10 coupon.!?! When did this become our fault? We were very articulate on this (my wife used to train servers and open restaurants for a major chain so she understands the server job and is very sympathetic to them). It gets better. After arguing with her, we were going to put $50 in cash and split the rest on two credit cards. She took the $50 and put the entire bill on the credit cards! She disappeared and didn't return. HORRIBLE SERVICE and the MANAGER NEVER CAME BACK BY TO SEE IF THEY COULD HELP! We don't plan on ever eating there again. Oh, and the food last night was over cooked, cold, and not very tasty to begin with. My kids kept telling me they like my steaks better. We never have problems with wait staff, in fact, we eat out a lot and tip very well (20-25%). Bad service has been reported by some of our neighbors in the area. Not good for Dukes!

After having two awful experiences at Duke's. Awful food, long waits from the kitchen even when restaurant not even half full. Yes, I am sharing the experience of my first two visits. Today was a little better. We had a decent waitress. Not the most friendly but very attentive. The food was ok. The French Onion soup was really bad. We had the Seared Tuna appetizer this was probably the best part of our dinner, and it lacked seasoning. We had the rib eye. An amazing cut of meat was served, perfectly cooked and zero seasoning. It was a shame. We had to add some salt and pepper to save it. The place is also very gloomy. The carpet looks like it has needed a wash for a few years. The vinyl table cloths are depressing. This is a perfect case for " Restaurants Impossible" the owner should really call them. Not sure how this place stays open.

  • Guy P.

OK, let's start with expectations. If you're looking for a fine dining, upscale steak establishment like Elway's, Brooks or Shanahan's, this isn't it. Duke's is a neighborhood restaurant with pretty good food at reasonable prices. We've been to Duke's a half dozen times and have, on balance, been pleased. Tonight, my wife had chicken carbonara and I had a ribeye steak. Two entrees, with sides, one salad and two iced teas for a total of $50. In my mind, quite reasonable. My steak was big (11 ounces) cooked as requested and tender and tasty. My wife said she really enjoyed her meal as well. There was no problem with the service, despite the fact that the place was packed with a line of people waiting (Friday night, 5:30 PM). Certainly different diners/reviewers have different experiences. Nonetheless, our experiences have been good with minor issues here and there. I suggest you try Duke's for yourself. They even accept reservations, a rarity for regular, day-to-day restaurants. We found this out only this evening and will definitely take advantage of the service. I find the negative reviews to be a bit surprising. There have been several restaurants that have occupied this space in Castle Pines. This is the first one to be consistently busy. To me, this fact says a lot.

  • Robin B.

Duke's recently relocated to Castle Pines from Castle Rock, so my husband and I thought we'd check out their new location. We went for appetizers in the bar. After being seated and perusing the menu, we decided there were no appetizers that weren't fried or completely uninspiring. So instead we decided to share the "special" - pork loin with mashed potatoes, gravy and vegetables. We started with the caesar salad. Every lettuce leaf was wilted and limp on the ends, like it had sat in the walk-in for far too long. Our special was absolutely nothing special - two pieces of grilled unseasoned loin, with instant mashed potatoes and mix gravy. The vegetables were a frozen blend that had been boiled. If they couldn't make homemade mashed potatoes, they could have served a baked potato instead, not cafeteria style food. The only seasoning that was used was a heavy hand with the salt. We were so disappointed, and were hoping this would be a place for us to occasionally come for dinner. I can't see us ever going back.

  • Joe L.

Been to Duke's several times for dinner. It's a reliable place for a good piece of steak. Add a salad, $1; add mushrooms to the steak, $1. Good, reliable, and very good sirloin. I recommend it over any of the local chains if you want steak, and in Castle Pines, it's very close to the Highlands Ranch area.

    (4)
  • Steve L.

i have no idea why this is a local favorite. The experience was lackluster all around. I took my family there, and although there were only two other occupied tables there, it took almost 25 minutes for the waitress to take our order (she seemed busy but I don't know why). The steaks were marginal at best, and undercooked (med-rare was rare, and my wife's med-well was barely medium). The vegetables were not fresh at all - they looked like what you get when you stick frozen store-bought veggies in the microwave. I ordered a glass of white wine with dinner, and it wasn't even slightly chilled. Sorry if that sounds picky, but when you ask for white wine, it should be cold. Overally, a very underwhelming experience. We won't be going back.

Some Comments: - Not much in Atmosphere + Locally Owned by a 3 generation family - Location, It's address is actually I-25 - Limited beer selection + Huge Rib-eye steaks at a great value! + Chuck wagon menu + Gravy, If you like a lot of gravy. The Chicken fried Steak chuck wagon comes drowned in thick gravy. You could only eat this whole plate maybe twice a year. Warning, eating all of this on a regular basis will kill you. It'll constrict every vessel in your heart before you get to your car. + They have matches - It's in Castle Rock + Decent value for dinner.

I was going to the library at CPN yesterday and nearly wrecked the car! Dukes is coming to CPN. To quote my wife"Horrid". UGH! Well I guess now we can have opposite ends of the dining spectrum at opposing ends of the same complex. The marvelous La Dolce Vita and , well, let me explain... We had driven by this place by the highway for a couple years and always wondered if it was good. Dukes Steakhouse. Seemed like lots of cars around. So last April we found ourselves in south Castle Rock at dinner time and decided to try it out. The early 80's never got an upgrade décor should have been our clue to run but we continued. It was early 80's style cafe (not restaurant) food as well. Low budget service, everything fried in the same grease, the steaks were um different, and we discovered why later that night and the next day. It was just as exciting! It was memorable! I can't imagine going back! (even though they moved.) Just what CPN needed, another failure.

The remodel since the very sad and disastrous Barking Goat is great. The food his been much better since the first week they reopened. We so need a restaurant to work in Castle Pine North. The Reuben was great and even the Ahi was cooked perfect. I think its going to work.

    (4)
  • Joyce A.

Well, we had a REALLY good steak dinner at Duke's and will consider going back when we're in the mood for steak another time. From the other Reviews, I'm thinking maybe we hit them on a good night. Ambiance: well ... Dukes could use a face lift. BUT ... The rib eye was quite good quality .. a little better than the last ribeye dinner at Texas Roadhouse. As others have mentioned, ya can't have steak *too often* so get a good one when you go out! Plus *any* restaurant that keeps you out of the kitchen can be a Godsend. Maybe that's another reason locals like Dukes.

    (4)
  • Trina W.

My husband and I ate at Dukes before they moved to CastleRock. Everything was wonderful then so we decided to have dinner there last Saturday. We were so disappointed. I ordered the NY, medium with side of Shrimp. Shrimp was mushy. The NY had no flavor at all. No seasoning.. salt, pepper nothing. My husband had the fillet with Scallops. Again, no seasoning, barely warm. Texas roadhouse puts their steaks to shame... A $100 dinner with nothing to show. Bummer. Will never go back again

    (1)
  • Jessina L.

We dined at the bar and compared to the rest of the place it had a ton of character. Our portions were big and the food was really good, the prices were even better! We were sad to hear that in a month the place is moving to another part of Castle Rock, but we will be sure to check it out again. We are with the locals and give Dukes a high five.

    (4)
  • Doug B.

The locals love this place and I don't know why. I've eaten here three times and have never had anything that was spectacular. If like bland over priced food, then you'll like this place. My steak was grisly and not very tasteful.
